Maj Enderstein Art Collection M.E.C.
Maj Enderstein was an artist, born on 8 September 1926 in Åseda, Småland, and she passed away on 10 February 2018 in Helsingborg. Throughout her life, she lived in Buenos Aires, Söderköping, Vänersborg, Paris, and, since 1987, in Helsingborg, Sweden.
Among other art and design educations, she studied at Ateljé José in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in the late 1950s, and at the Gerlesborg School of Fine Art in Bohuslän during the 1970s. She was awarded work grants by the San Michele Foundation, a Swedish cultural institute on Capri, Italy, in 1975 and 1989, and by Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris in 1993, 1994, 1995, 1997, and 1999.
Her artistic work was influenced by impressionism, with a strong focus on light, color, and the shifting qualities of light. In her early years, Maj Enderstein also enjoyed a brief but successful career as a fashion designer, working for Swedish fashion houses during the 1950s. Her designs were featured in international fashion magazines. Composition, design, and a strong sense of form remained central to her artistic expression throughout her life.

Selected group exhibitions include: Konsthallen Gamla Linköping (1973), Norrköping and Linköping Museum (1975), Salon des Nations, Paris (1983), Riom, France (1990), Landskrona Konsthall (1991), Hörby Museum (1992), Karlskrona Konsthall (1997), and Krapperups Konsthall (2000).
Maj Enderstein was also a much-appreciated exhibitor at workplaces around Sweden through engaged workplace art associations, where she met a broad and diverse audience. In her later years, she welcomed visitors to her home and studio in Helsingborg and remained active until her passing in 2018. Over the years, she held numerous exhibitions at galleries across Sweden.
Represented in collections: Älvsborg County Council, Sparbanken Väst (Vänersborg), Scandinavian Ferry Lines (Helsingborg), SPP (Malmö), Saltögården Royal Academy of Music (Strömstad), and the Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg.
Maj Enderstein was a member of the Swedish Artists' Association (Konstnärernas Riksorganisation - KRO).
