The documentary is part of a larger ongoing project and vision, to use images to capture and retell stories from places once full of people, events, and activities. Today, this place, El Autódromo de Sitges-Terramar, lies silent, at risk of vanishing not only from our memory, but also from the physical world.

In my previous projects, I have often portrayed people, capturing them in natural, sometimes documentary contexts. In this project, however, the people are no longer present, only traces remain, revealed through the places they once happened to inhabit. The photographs depict the site as it appears today, yet they remain connected to historical events on the verge of being forgotten.

El Autódromo de Sitges-Terramar is an art project and digital photo collection consisting of more than 500 images in total. This exhibition presents a curated selection from that collection. The photographs, taken on-site on Monday, 27 February 2023, show El Autódromo de Sitges-Terramar as it stands today. Through the photographer’s eye and camera lens, seemingly random fragments are captured and then carefully processed, through light and the absence of light, to evoke a bygone era.

The collection represents a time once full of life, when people breathed optimism and belief in the future. A time that preceded a civil war and a world war, and that later underwent a process of democratization with the fall of a fascist dictatorship. Now sleeping and abandoned, it waits for something new.
